Bengaluru: Pensions that had been suspended for various technical reasons have been restored, with 52,632 applications sanctioned again across Bengaluru Urban district, Deputy Commissioner Kantharaju P.S. said on November 7.
He was speaking after distributing benefits at the district-level Praja Seva Andolana programme held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel High School hall in Sarjapura hobli, Anekal taluk.
About 6,700 pensions in Anekal taluk, which had been suspended in view of the annual income limit, have been sanctioned again, the Deputy Commissioner said.
The work of tahsildars will be monitored and they have already been told to work diligently, he said, adding that he would soon make inspection visits to taluk offices. All applications received at the Praja Seva Andolana have been referred to the departments concerned for quick disposal, he said.
Of the 846 lakes in the district, officials have been directed to act to clear encroachments on lakes in the Anekal area, he said. Complaints have been received about the ongoing acquisition of farmers’ fertile land for industries, and consultations will be held with Industries Department officials, the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer and the District Registrar on stopping the acquisition process, he said.
The Praja Seva campaign aims to take government benefits and administration directly to people’s doorsteps, and people should make use of it, he said.
At the programme, the Revenue Department gave Indira Gandhi old-age, widow and disability pensions to about 150 people. The Animal Husbandry Department distributed fodder seed kits to 20 farmers, the Women and Child Development Department distributed Bhagyalakshmi scheme passbooks, and the Deputy Commissioner handed over food kits from the Food and Civil Supplies Department to about 20 pourakarmikas.
A total of 60 applications were received at the programme, Anekal tahsildar Munivenkatappa said. These included 16 for the Revenue Department, 15 for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, 11 related to housing, two each for the Food, Minorities and Urban Development departments, and 12 for other departments.
