Supreme Court Verdict on ED Misuse a Landmark, Says Bamul President D.K. Suresh

Date:

Bengaluru: Bamul President and former MP D.K. Suresh has called the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the functioning of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) “significant and timely”, especially in the context of the agency being allegedly used as a political weapon by the central government.

Responding to media queries at his residence in Sadashivanagar on Tuesday, Suresh said, “Yesterday’s Supreme Court judgement is crucial. This is not the first time the apex court has flagged concerns about ED’s overreach and conduct. For the last two years, the court has repeatedly cautioned against its misuse.”

Citing examples, he added, “Just last week, the Madras High Court pulled up ED officials in a related matter. It is evident that the central government is weaponising the agency to harass Opposition leaders through politically motivated raids. I urge the Centre to abandon this politics of vendetta and instead focus on developmental politics, youth employment, and problem-solving governance.”

When asked if ED actions are damaging political careers, Suresh replied, “In politics, one must be ready to face everything. But it is concerning that some are using ED as a tool to target Opposition leaders. The Supreme Court’s verdict has restored some faith in justice.”

Reacting to KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar’s comment that the ED cases against him were part of a political conspiracy, Suresh said, “Even when our cases were nearing closure, new letters would be sent to CBI or Income Tax—an endless loop of inquiries. It’s clear that the objective is not to determine truth but to trap leaders at every stage. This is not about justice or due process—it’s about politically motivated persecution.”

He concluded by saying that the Centre should stop nurturing this dangerous trend of using investigative agencies as tools of political control and instead focus on the real issues affecting the nation.
