Karnataka Health Dept Cracks Down on Highway Dhabas: ₹1.45 Lakh Penalty Imposed, 41 Eateries Inspected

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Health Department carried out a statewide enforcement drive targeting highway dhabas across multiple key routes, inspecting food safety standards and taking action against violations.

The drive covered major stretches including Nelamangala–Tumkur, Nelamangala–Kunigal, Tumkur–Chitradurga, Chitradurga–Davanagere, and Davanagere–Haveri.

On the Nelamangala–Tumkur route, 8 dhabas were inspected, resulting in penalties of ₹30,000 and collection of 4 legal food samples.

Between Nelamangala and Kunigal, 9 dhabas were visited, with a total penalty of ₹85,000 imposed and 4 samples collected for further testing.

On the Tumkur–Chitradurga stretch, inspections were carried out at 8 dhabas, leading to penalties amounting to ₹30,000 and collection of 4 samples.

In the Chitradurga–Davanagere section, 8 dhabas were inspected, with no penalties imposed, while 1 legal sample was collected.

Similarly, along the Davanagere–Haveri route, 8 dhabas were checked, with no penalties levied, and 3 samples collected for analysis.

A total of 41 dhabas were inspected during the drive. Authorities imposed penalties amounting to ₹1,45,000 and collected 16 legal samples for laboratory testing.

Officials said the drive is part of ongoing efforts to ensure food safety compliance across highway eateries and to safeguard public health.
