BENGALURU:
A mind-boggling 4,120 fresh Covid cases were reported in the state on Sunday – just a shade less than Saturday’s 4,537 cases — taking Karnataka’s tally past 60,000. Bengaluru alone accounted for 2,156 of Sunday’s reported infections and now has a caseload of 24,316.
So far, 63,772 positive cases have been detected in the state. Of these, 1,331 have died, giving a mortality rate of 2.8%. Currently, 23,065 people have been discharged from hospitals, giving a recovery rate of 36.1%. There are 39,370 active cases statewide. On Sunday, 1,290 patients were discharged statewide, but that is of little comfort in the context of the surging infections.
Statewide Covid deaths were 91 on Sunday and a relatively low 36 in Bengaluru. Karnataka’s total fatalities now add up to 667.
Approximately 253 patients were discharged from hospitals in Bengaluru on Sunday. There continue to be 39,370 active cases in the state.
The break-up for the worst-affected districts apart from Bengaluru: 285 in Dakshina Kannada, 171 in Vijayapura, 135 in Chikkaballapur, 134 in Udupi, 126 in Dharwad, 110 in Mysuru and 104 in Shivamogga.
