Subroto Cup 2026: West Bengal’s Manikpara Vivekanand Vidyapeeth Beat Assam 1-0 to Win Sub-Junior Boys Title in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, September 10: Manikpara Vivekanand Vidyapeeth of West Bengal defeated Kamprup Metropolitan Senior Secondary School of Assam 1-0 to win the Sub-Junior Boys title at the 65th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament in Bengaluru.
The final was played at the Subroto Football Ground, Air Force Station Jalahalli, on September 9, bringing the Sub-Junior Boys competition to a close after a tournament featuring 32 teams, including an international entry from Sri Lanka.
The closely contested title clash ended with the West Bengal side prevailing by a solitary goal over the Assam team to claim the championship.
Air Marshal S. Shrinivas, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, attended the final as the chief guest. Former international footballer and former Indian national team captain Shanmugam Venkatesh was the guest of honour.
The event began with a performance by the Air Warrior Drill Team, followed by a cultural programme presented by students of PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya Nos. 1 and 2, Jalahalli.
Manikpara Vivekanand Vidyapeeth received ₹4 lakh as the winner’s prize, while Kamprup Metropolitan Senior Secondary School received ₹2 lakh as the runner-up prize.
Rajee Tyngsong of the Assam team was adjudged the best player of the tournament and received a cash award of ₹50,000.
In his closing address, Air Marshal Shrinivas congratulated the participants, officials and organising committee on the conduct of the tournament. He expressed satisfaction over the closely contested matches and said they had been played in the spirit of sportsmanship.
He also urged the young players to continue striving for excellence.
The final at Air Force Station Jalahalli capped the Sub-Junior Boys competition of the 65th Subroto Cup, with West Bengal taking the title, Assam finishing runner-up and Assam’s Rajee Tyngsong securing the tournament’s best player honour.
