Street Vendors in Gandhi Bazaar Can Operate Only Within Marked Spaces, Says BBMP
Bengaluru, July 20: Street vendors in Gandhi Bazaar will be permitted to conduct business only from designated spaces marked on the footpaths in accordance with the High Court’s directions, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G. said on Monday.
Chairing a meeting, the Commissioner said line markings have already been painted on both sides of the footpaths along the Gandhi Bazaar Main Road in Chikkapete Division to earmark vending spaces. Vendors have been instructed to operate only within the marked areas.
He said encroachment of footpaths outside the designated vending spaces obstructs pedestrian movement and directed officials to remove vendors carrying out business beyond the marked lines.
Additional Commissioner (Development) Venkatachalapathi, Joint Commissioner Hemanth Sharan, executive engineers, Assistant Revenue Officers of the Kalyan Division and other officials attended the meeting.
