BENGALURU:

The Vice-Chancellor of Bengaluru Central University is apparently in a hurry to ensure that the Finance Officer (FO) quits at the earliest. A pre-review audit team of the government is scheduled to inspect the University’s accounts on March 6.

According to a letter by a Bangalore Central University Syndicate member, the Vice-Chancellor was in such a hurry to ensure that the FO is relieved of his duties that he passed the orders himself — which is actually the duty of the Registrar. Within an hour of receiving the letter from the government, he passed orders that the FO’s duties be handed over to the Registrar (Evaluation) with effect from March 3.

The VC’s urgency points to the alleged squandering of public funds during the last three years by Prof. Japhet — including misappropriation to the tune of Rs. 40 crore in e-governence in exams and examination systems, collection of money from affiliated colleges for the Indian Social Science Congress held in January 2020, and collection of money from M.Com students for an orientation session at the University for project dissertation last week.

The VC is yet to answer the BCU Syndicate on the issue of the big-ticket Indian Social Science Congress, despite a formal request from Syndicate members for a special meeting to discuss the event and the e-procurement of software.

It was an upright FO who enabled Syndicate members to unearth the case of Dr. Janardhanam of the Management department during Oct-Nov 2019.

Allegedly, the VC is also moving the authorities to remove the Registrar, Prof. Sivaram.
