Spokesperson says she ‘may have’ campaigned for BJP ‘on her own’
BENGALURU:
The state BJP has given itself the moral high ground by ‘disowning’ Sandalwood actress Ragini Dwivedi, who is currently in police custody in a drugs-related case.
On Sunday, ex-MLC and Karnataka BJP spokesperson Ganesh Karnik in a press release stated, “We disown Ragini Dwivedi. Hundreds of celebrities from different walks of life campaigned for the BJP ‘voluntarily’ during the 2019 bye-elections. Kannada cine actress Ragini Dwivedi may have been one among them.”
The holier-than-thou press release went on to say that the actress was not a member of the BJP, nor had the BJP assigned her the responsibility of electioneering. “She may have been involved in the campaign ‘on her own’. The BJP is neither accountable nor answerable for Ragini Dwivedi’s activities in her personal and professional life,” the release stated.
The release by Karnik added, “We have nothing to do with it (the drugs case) and we maintain distance from it.
The BJP is totally against any sort of/any form of anti-social activity by anybody. We will neither encourage nor support such activities. Hence, we disown Ragini Dwivedi for her involvement in the drug racket.”
