Bengaluru: Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said he would speak to sugarcane growers and sugar mill owners before deciding the next course of action on the problems facing the sector.
Speaking to reporters at Kittur in Belagavi district on Sunday, October 25, he said he had come to the region for discussions rather than hold a meeting in Bengaluru.
“First, farmers in our state must survive,” Shivakumar said, adding that he needed to hear the mill owners’ views as well as those of growers.
He said he had also discussed the issue with other states and would consult all sides before deciding how to proceed.
