Bengaluru, July 22: The Greater Bengaluru Development Department has resumed its Safe Footpath Campaign in Shivajinagar, a day after officials were attacked during an anti-encroachment drive, with the encroached footpath at the Shivajinagar Bus Stand now cleared and reopened for pedestrians.

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the violence would not deter the government from carrying out its duty of reclaiming public spaces for pedestrians. In a post on X, the minister said the encroachment on the Shivajinagar Bus Stand footpath had been removed, restoring safe pedestrian access.

The development comes a day after Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) officials conducting a footpath clearance drive in Shivajinagar were allegedly attacked by a group opposing the anti-encroachment operation. Police registered a case and launched an investigation, arresting multiple accused, including the alleged main accused, in connection with the incident.

The minister reiterated that public safety remains the government’s top priority and said the Safe Footpath Campaign would continue across the city without interruption and without discrimination.

Sharing photographs of the site after the clearance operation, Byre Gowda said the Shivajinagar Bus Stand footpath is now clear, accessible and restored to pedestrians. He added that the campaign will continue firmly and fairly in the larger public interest.
