BENGALURU:

In the wake of several treefalls and two deaths following heavy rains in the city since the last couple of days, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has instructed the BBMP control room to respond immediately to complaints from the public, and has warned that strict action will be taken against officials who do not attend to complaints.

At a meeting to review BBMP’s monsoon preparedness on Saturday, the CM instructed officials to clear fallen trees within two days and prune trees that are weak. If there was any disruption of traffic movement, the officials concerned would be held responsible.

Yediyurappa directed BBMP to work in coordination with agencies like the police, forest, transport and fire departments. Open manholes should be closed and jetting machines should be on standby to clear blocked drains.

Revenue Minister R Ashoka said a team comprising BBMP, Bescom, BWSSB, police and fire department officials would be in charge of supervision and relief measures in all eight BBMP zones. Assistant Engineers would be held responsible if any disasters occurred.

Urban Development Minister Byrathi Basavaraj, Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar, Bangalore City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao were present at the meeting.
