BENGALURU:

In another single-day high, if not a ‘record-breaking’ one, Karnataka saw 141 new Covid positive cases on Saturday, taking the state’s overall tally to 2,922. Yet again, 90 inter-state passengers account for a large chunk of the new cases. Fatalities inched up to 49 with the death of a 47-year-old woman in Bidar, minister and Covid-19 spokesperson Suresh Kumar told reporters.

The Bidar native was admitted to a designated hospital there on May 24 and died on May 28. She had co-morbidities like ILI and hypertension, was bed-ridden and suffered from convulsions, Kumar said.

The minister gave the break-up of cases as 1,874 active (of whom 15 are in ICUs),  997 discharged, 49 Covid-19 deaths and two non-Covid related deaths.

As per the health department bulletin, Saturday’s new cases comprise 33 in Bengaluru, 18 in Yadagir, 14 in Dakshina Kannada, 13 each in Udupi and Hassan, 11 in Vijayapura, 10 in Bidar, 6 in Shivamogga, 4 each in Davanagere and Haveri, 3 in Kolar, 2 each in Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Uttara Kannada and Dharwad, and one each in Belagavi, Chitradurga, Tumakuru and Bengaluru Rural.
