BENGALURU:

Members of the Reddy community, led by the Reddy Jana Sangh, on Saturday demanded a separate Reddy Development Corporation and more representation for the community in the next cabinet expansion, giving due consideration to the community’s population in Karnataka.

Speaking at a press conference, guru peetha Vemananda Swamiji, who led a protest, said 70 lakh people belong to the Reddy community and 11 members of the community have been elected to the Karnataka Assembly.

“Reddys, who have a lot of importance in the state, are represented in the cabinet by just one MLA. This government has ignored other communities in favour of a particular community. If this continues, the other communities too will oppose the government. We had no representation in the Yediyurappa Government. Bommai’s government also lacks proper representation of the community. The Reddy community’s contribution to the development of our party is immense. In view of all this, Satish Reddy, Vishwanath Reddy and Somashekhar Reddy, who belong to the community, should be given ministerial positions,” he said. The swamiji warned of an agitation across the state if the community was ignored by the present government.

Reddys and Bengaluru

President of the association Jayarama Reddy said the Reddys have made valuable contributions to the development of Bengaluru since the time of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, and ten well-known areas such as Paparadi Palya and Munireddy Palya are still known by the name of Reddy. He warned that the community “has the strength to bring any party to power and remove it from power.”

Thousands of Reddys from all over the state attended the protest, including former mayor SK Nataraj, Reddy Jana Sangh vice-president Venkatasivaraddy, Shivaram, general secretary Krishna Reddy KM, and joint secretaries Sadashiva Reddy and Krishna Reddy KM.
