Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has indicated that the government is actively working on a plan to reduce heavy traffic congestion on the Nelamangala to Goraguntepalya stretch, one of the busiest entry corridors into Bengaluru.

Responding to a media query, Shivakumar said discussions have been held with senior Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi on measures to control and ease traffic flow in the city. He acknowledged that the Nelamangala–Goraguntepalya route witnesses significant vehicular congestion, particularly due to inflow from national and state highways.

The DCM said the government is exploring alternative arrangements to prevent heavy vehicles and highway traffic from entering the city core. Plans are being evaluated to divert such traffic before it reaches the NICE Road corridor, thereby reducing pressure on key urban stretches.

He added that the Business Corridor project has already been taken up as part of a broader strategy to streamline traffic movement and improve connectivity around Bengaluru.

Officials believe that these measures, once implemented, could significantly decongest one of the city’s most critical traffic bottlenecks and improve overall commuting efficiency.
