“No Factions Between Me and Siddaramaiah”: DCM D.K. Shivakumar Slams Media Speculation
Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has strongly dismissed reports of factionalism within the Congress, asserting that there are no divisions between him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and that all MLAs belong to the party collectively.
Responding sharply to media queries about alleged groupism and his recent travel with Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar said, “Siddaramaiah and I are together. We meet and discuss matters every day. Where is the question of factions? All 139 MLAs are ours. It is the media that is trying to create divisions.”
Expressing displeasure over repeated speculation, he questioned the basis of such claims, stating that neither he nor Siddaramaiah has ever identified themselves as leaders of separate groups. “Have we put up boards saying ‘Siddaramaiah group’ or ‘my group’? These are narratives being created without any basis,” he said.
On remarks made by leaders within the party, Shivakumar reiterated that there is no internal division and emphasized that the Congress functions as one unit. “There are no factions. All MLAs are part of one Congress group. Our priority is the party’s growth and welfare, and we are working together towards that,” he added.
Addressing questions regarding disciplinary actions against certain leaders, he clarified that such matters are handled as per party norms and under the guidance of the central leadership in Delhi. “There are no personal issues. We function within the framework of party discipline. Even if there are criticisms, it does not concern me as long as we follow the party line,” he said.
On allegations related to minority concerns, Shivakumar stated that the Congress party is committed to ensuring justice for all sections of society, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minorities, backward classes, and farmers.
He also spoke about discussions with senior leader Satish Jarkiholi, stating that the party’s focus is to return to power in 2028. “We are working unitedly and I am fully confident of coming back to power,” he said.
Highlighting governance issues, Shivakumar said he held discussions on reducing Bengaluru’s traffic congestion, particularly on stretches like Nelamangala to Goraguntepalya. He added that measures are being explored to divert vehicles entering the city through national and state highways, along with ongoing initiatives like the business corridor project to ease traffic flow.
