P Ravi Kumar is new Chief Secretary
Kumar (IAS 1984) succeeds Vijay Bhaskar, will retire in May 2022
BENGALURU:
Ending all speculations over the successor to TM Vijay Bhaskar, the Karnataka government has appointed the next most senior IAS officer, P Ravi Kumar, as the new Chief Secretary to the government. He thus becomes the 38th Chief Secretary of Karnataka.
An order to this effect was issued by the Department of Personnel Administrative Reforms on Wednesday evening.
Incumbent Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar will be retiring on Thursday, December 31, after a 37-year stint in the civil services.
P Ravi Kumar (1984 batch-RR) had been considered the most likely to get the top civil servant’s post in the state. He will be retiring in May 2022.

In the last 6 months, Ravi Kumar has served as Additional Chief Secretary (Development), and he has also served as ACS to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
‘Guiding hand’
Speaking to thebengalurulive, Ravi Kumar affirmed that he would draw on his experience to provide guidance to fellow-IAS officers on tackling the financial situation in the state, as well as on curbing the coronavirus pandemic and the more recent Covid-19 variant.
He said, “All ongoing works will continue and there won’t be any major changes in the administration. But as and when required, I will provide guidance to my colleagues to come out of any situation.”
