Bengaluru, July 3: Karnataka’s Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Thursday said that the final design for the comprehensive redevelopment of Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) will be prepared only after extensive consultations with local residents and stakeholders.

The Minister made the announcement after conducting an on-site inspection of the proposed redevelopment stretch from Lorry Junction to Iblur Junction, which forms part of the ambitious project covering the Silk Board Junction to Baiyappanahalli Metro Station corridor.

Addressing the media after the inspection, Krishna Byre Gowda said the Outer Ring Road is one of Bengaluru’s busiest traffic corridors and that the State Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, plans to reconstruct and modernise the stretch at an estimated cost of ₹400–450 crore.

He, however, stressed that before commencing civil works, it is essential to develop a comprehensive solution to Bengaluru’s traffic congestion along the corridor.

The Minister noted that the Outer Ring Road passes through one of the city’s most densely developed urban belts, housing a large number of residential apartment complexes, IT companies, commercial establishments and business centres. Given the complexity of the corridor, he said the project design must take into account local traffic patterns, pedestrian movement, utility infrastructure and the requirements of all stakeholders.

Krishna Byre Gowda said that once the preliminary design is prepared, it will be placed before local residents, resident welfare associations, commercial establishments and other stakeholders for consultation. Suggestions received during the consultation process will be examined before the final project design is approved.

According to the Minister, Thursday’s field inspection provided officials with a clear understanding of the existing road conditions, bottlenecks and infrastructure challenges. Based on these findings, the project design will be refined, after which statutory approvals will be obtained before the redevelopment work begins.

The proposed project aims to significantly improve traffic flow, road safety, pedestrian infrastructure and overall mobility along one of Bengaluru’s most critical transport corridors.

The inspection was attended by Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, BWSSB Chairperson Dr. N. Manjula, Special Commissioner Nitish, Municipal Commissioners Ramesh D.S. and Ramesh K.N., Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy, Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, B-SMILE Technical Director Dr. B.S. Prahlad, representatives of various stakeholder groups and senior government officials.
