NCB-Bengaluru arrests 2, including South African national
BENGALURU:
Based on specific intelligence, officers of the NCB-Bengaluru intercepted an outbound parcel at a courier centre in the city on the night of March 11.
As per Amit Ghawate, IRS, zonal director, NCB-Bengaluru, the parcel, destined for New Zealand, was found to contain 50 spools of metallic yarn. Each spool concealed pseudoephedrine powder of 40 grams. In all, 1.970 kg of pseudoephedrine was seized from the spools. The price of the contraband is estimated at Rs 1.40 crore.
In a swift follow-up action, two persons, an Indian and a South African national, were apprehended. With their arrests, the NCB-Bengaluru has busted a drug syndicate which was operating in a novel manner.
Pseudoephedrine is illegally exported as it is the main ingredient for methamphetamine (meth), a highly addictive stimulant.
