Monday watch: 308 new virus cases, 3 deaths, 387 discharged

Monday saw yet another large spike of 308 new Covid-19 cases, pushing up Karnataka’s tally to 5,760. Three deaths were also reported for an aggregate death toll of 64. On the flip side, as many as 387 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,519.

Of Monday’s new cases, 277 are inter-state returnees, mostly from neighbouring Maharashtra, according to the health department bulletin. Out of 3,175 active cases, 3,161 are in hospital isolation while 14 are in ICUs. The day’s 3 fatalities were all hospitalised on June 4.

All three deaths were from Bengaluru Urban. One was a 67-year-old man diagnosed with ILI and with a past of ischemic heart disease. The second was a 48-year-old woman with ILI, fever and breathlessness. The third was a 65-year-old woman with SARI.

Monday’s new cases were: Kalaburagi 99, Yadgir 66, Bidar 48, Udupi 45, Bengaluru Urban 18, Ballari 8, Gadag 6, Shivamogga and Dharwad 4 each, Hassan and Dakshina Kannada 3 each, Bagalkot 2, and Koppal and Ramanagara 1 each.

Udupi stays top of the district table with 947 infections, followed by Kalaburagi with 759 and Yadgir with 581. As of date, the discharges are: Udupi 318, Bengaluru Urban 298 and Mandya 222.

A total of 3,93,221 samples have been tested till date, of which 8,779 were tested on Monday. Till now, 3,80,630 samples have reported negative, 8,231 of them in Monday.
