Bengaluru: A man from Tripura, identified as Mithun Sarkar, has been taken into custody by Bommanahalli Police for allegedly making abusive and derogatory remarks against Kannadigas during a delivery dispute.
According to the FIR filed by Ranjith, a delivery executive, the incident took place around 9:30 PM on July 17, when he went to deliver a T-shirt ordered by Mithun. Upon receiving a call from the delivery executive, Mithun allegedly launched into a verbal tirade, insulting Kannadigas and the state of Karnataka using offensive language.
In an audio recording shared by the complainant, Mithun is heard saying, “We (Hindi speakers) make up 70% of Karnataka. If we leave, you Kannadigas won’t have even ₹10 to buy tomatoes. You people eat only ragi mudde, idli, dosa, and maybe chicken once a week. You can’t even imagine the kind of food we Bengalis make.”
He reportedly threatened Ranjith further, saying, “Record this call, take my number, my address is in Begur — just come and deliver my order.”
When Ranjith politely told him that the call was being recorded, Mithun continued his verbal abuse, allegedly using obscene and disrespectful terms about the Kannada language and people.
Following the incident, Ranjith filed a formal complaint at Bommanahalli Police Station. An FIR was registered based on the call recording and the accused’s address. Mithun was later tracked down and detained for questioning.
The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Shetty faction) also submitted a separate complaint demanding strict action against Mithun Sarkar for deliberately insulting local culture and language.
Bommanahalli Police confirmed that investigation is underway, and legal action will follow based on the evidence collected.
