Bengaluru: Expanding opportunities for students from Bengaluru-based universities to participate in semiconductor student exchanges and industry–academia programmes was a key focus of M B Patil’s discussions with the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) during his official visit to Singapore.
Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries met senior representatives of SSIA and the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) on Wednesday as part of a high-level delegation seeking greater investment in the state’s industrial sector, according to a statement from his office.
Semiconductor talent collaboration on the agenda
Patil said the SSIA discussions covered investment opportunities in Karnataka’s semiconductor sector, with a particular focus on strengthening talent collaboration and increasing student participation in exchange and related industry–academia programmes.
The delegation also highlighted upcoming investments in Bengaluru by semiconductor companies including Lam Research and Applied Materials. Patil said invitations were extended for participation in Karnataka’s Global Investor Meet 2027.
SBF’s Bengaluru centre to support Singapore companies
Patil said SBF, Singapore’s apex business chamber representing more than 34,000 companies, had recently established its first Singapore Enterprise Centre outside Southeast Asia in Bengaluru, with Karnataka government’s support.
The centre will help Singapore companies seeking to enter and expand in India through market advisory, networking, business matching and on-ground support, he said.
The discussions also explored closer collaboration between SBF and the Karnataka government to facilitate business engagement and investment between Singapore and the state.
Prasoon Mukherjee, Chairman of the SBF-India Business Council, and Samantha Teo, SBF Executive Director for the SAMEA region, participated in the discussions. SSIA Executive Director Ang Wee Seng also took part.
The Karnataka delegation includes Industries Department Principal Secretary Selvakumar and other senior officials. The statement said further meetings with leading companies were planned for Thursday and Friday.
