KSRTC ‘Pallakki’ Bus Gutted in Haveri Fire, 17 Passengers Escape Unhurt
Haveri: A major tragedy was averted after a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) ‘Pallakki’ bus caught fire and was completely gutted on a highway in Haveri district, officials said on Tuesday.
The bus was en route from Bengaluru to Gadag when the incident occurred near Devarudda village in Ranebennur taluk. According to preliminary reports, the fire broke out suddenly while the vehicle was in motion, triggering panic among passengers.
Driver Fakkirappa acted swiftly on noticing the flames, immediately halting the bus and ensuring all passengers evacuated safely. His timely response is credited with saving the lives of all 17 passengers on board, who escaped without injuries.
The bus was, however, completely destroyed in the fire.
Police from Ranebennur Rural Police Station rushed to the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The incident once again raises concerns over vehicle safety and emergency preparedness on long-distance routes in the state.
