Mandya/Bengaluru: The Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir is inching towards full capacity, following widespread rainfall across the Cauvery catchment region. On Sunday, the dam’s water level touched 123.25 feet, leaving just over a foot to reach its maximum level of 124.80 feet.
According to the latest data from Karnataka’s Water Resources Department, the inflow into the reservoir has surged to 73,811 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 38,983 cusecs. The current storage volume of the dam is 47.311 TMC, against its maximum capacity of 49.50 TMC.
Officials said preparations are underway for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s Bagina offering ceremony, scheduled for June 30 at the KRS site. The Karnataka Neeravari Nigam (Ka.Ni.Ni) is overseeing the arrangements, anticipating the reservoir reaching full capacity in the coming hours.
Traditionally, the Bagina offering marks a ceremonial tribute to the Cauvery River, acknowledging the annual monsoon blessing of the region’s water lifeline. Given the present rate of inflow, the dam is expected to be completely filled before the Chief Minister’s visit.
