Bengaluru: Kasavanahalli and newly handed-over BDA layouts are outside Bengaluru South City Corporation’s ongoing LED streetlight project and will be covered separately in a subsequent phase, the corporation clarified on October 28.
The clarification came as Additional Commissioner Dr Naveen Kumar Raju inspected a centralised streetlight control room being set up at the ARO office building near RV Metro Station and directed officials to finish technical and operational preparations within 15 days.
Control room deadline; later phase for excluded areas
The control room works are in their final stages and the facility will formally open for public service after the pending work is completed, the corporation said. The current scope is confined to designated areas and excludes the newly handed-over BDA layouts and Kasavanahalli. Installation and maintenance in those areas will be undertaken separately in the next phase; no date for that phase was given.
1.24 lakh LED lights and 5,123 control units
The corporation reported 75,617 newly installed LED lights and 49,219 existing ones, taking its network to 1,24,836 lights, alongside 5,123 Centralized Control and Monitoring System units.
According to the corporation, CCMS uses GPS and GSM to link streetlights to the control room, automatically switch them according to sunrise and sunset, monitor power consumption and voltage, and send alerts about line faults, blown fuses and interruptions.
Raju directed engineers and officials to maintain illumination and resolve streetlight complaints while making the control room fully functional. Electrical Division officials and contractors attended the inspection.
