Karnataka Reviews Tourism, Skill Development Projects in Mining-Affected Districts Under CEPMIZ
Bengaluru: Karnataka Tourism Department Secretary Ram Prasath Manohar said the progress of tourism and skill development projects being implemented under the CEPMIZ programme for the comprehensive development of mining-affected areas in the state was reviewed on Tuesday.
In a post on X, Manohar said officials held detailed discussions on the progress of projects in Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Vijayanagara and Ballari districts, the infrastructure required and the next stages of implementation.
Officials were directed to ensure effective and time-bound implementation of tourism-related projects, including a theme park, Skill Development and Hospitality Training Centre and convention centre, he said.
Manohar said the projects are aimed at providing new experiences for tourists while creating skill-development and employment opportunities for local youth.
Under the guidance of Tourism and Energy Minister K.J. George, the department intends to ensure that development of mining-affected areas is not confined to physical infrastructure, but is linked with tourism, skill development, local employment and economic activity to facilitate long-term and sustainable development, he said.
The department is proceeding in a planned manner to develop new economic activities in mining-affected areas and position tourism as a tool for local development, Manohar added.
