Karnataka postpones Second PU exam

BENGALURU:

Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar on Tuesday announced postponement of the Second PU (Class 12) examination which was scheduled to be held from May 24.

Suresh Kumar said the decision was taken amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru as well as statewide.

He said the new dates of the exam will be announced in the coming days, and students will be given adequate time to prepare for the exam. He appealed to students to continue with their studies.

‘Enough preparation time’

The Education Minister, in a video statement after chairing a meeting with department officials, said the test dates will be announced 15-20 days in advance so as to give sufficient preparation time to students.

As per the earlier decision of the state government, the Second PU exam was scheduled to be held from May 24 to June 16. Preparations had been made to conduct the exam at 5,562 colleges in 1,047 centres across the state.

A total of 68,6708 candidates were scheduled to sit for the examination, including 5,92,816 freshers, 76,422 repeaters and 17,470 private candidates.

Promotion for First PU students

“The First PU exam, which was scheduled to be conducted after the Second PU exam, has been cancelled in the wake of Covid. The first PU students will be promoted to Second PU,” Kumar said.

The meeting was attended by Department of Primary and Secondary Education’s Additional Chief Secretary G Kumar Nayak, PU Board Director R Snehal and others.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Examinations as well as Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Telangana states have postponed the Class XII board exams.
