5,000 cases statewide for 5th day running
Monday, July 27, 2020 will go down in the history books as an especially black day for Karnataka — the day it became the fifth Indian state to join the 1 lakh-plus Covid cases ‘club’. As of Monday, the state has 1,01,465 Covid- positive cases, of which 61,819 are active cases.
Karnataka is now behind Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, which is just barely ahead with 1,02,349 cases.
Meanwhile, for the straight fifth day, the dreaded coronavirus registered 5,000-plus cases — 5,324 to be exact — statewide. In a slight departure from the ‘script’, the number of infections has come down in state capital Bengaluru at 1,470 positive cases. Also on Monday, the state witnessed 75 deaths, of which 26 were in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru apart, there were 840 new cases in Ballari, 631 in Kalaburagi, 296 in Mysuru, 225 in Udupi, 193 in Dharwad, 155 in Belagavi, 142 in Kolar, 138 in Bengaluru Rural, 120 in Raichur, 119 in Dakshina Kannada, and 110 each in Vijayapura and Davanagere.
As per the bulletin released by the Karnataka Health and Family Welfare department, the state saw1,847 patients discharged on Monday, taking overall recoveries to 37,68. On Monday, 784 people were discharged in Bengaluru and 142 recovered in Raichur.
