Karnataka has 17,782 active cases; Bengaluru has major share of 10,870 ‘actives’

Thursday saw 1,373 new cases in Bengaluru and 2,282 in state

No death in city, but 17 statewide

BENGALURU:

The dreaded coronavirus seems to create a new ‘record’ everyday. On Thursday, the state reported a new high of 2,282 infections, while Bengaluru’s morbid ‘share’ was 1,373 infected people.

In a relief of sorts, the city did not report any Covid death for the second day in a row. Casualties statewide were 17, taking Karnataka’s death toll to 487.

The total number of infected people in the state is now 31,159, out of which 17,782 are ‘active’.

Thursday also saw 957 discharges, with Bengaluru accounting for 606 of them.Till date, Karnataka has seen 12,833 discharges.

Dharwad leads with 7 deaths

Statewide, Dharwad reported 7 deaths — the highest in the state. All of them were above 50 years, their ages being 55, 65, 67, 78, 73, 54 and 85. All the deceased had symptoms of cough, fever and breathlessness.

Among the other districts, Kalaburagi and Mysuru reported 2 deaths each, and Raichur, Uttara Kannada, Hassan and Tumkuru reported one death each.
