Bengaluru: In a significant development, the Government of Karnataka has revoked the suspension orders of senior IPS officers and Karnataka State Police officers who were under investigation for their alleged role in the June 4 Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede incident. The decision follows the submission of inquiry reports by both a magisterial committee and a judicial commission.
According to Government Order No. DPAR 131 SPS 2025, issued on July 28, 2025, by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), the suspension of B Dayananda, IPS (Additional Director General of Police), and Shekar H Tekkanavar, IPS (Superintendent of Police) has been revoked. Both officers are reinstated with immediate effect, pending further disciplinary proceedings under Rule 8 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.
Additionally, the suspension of two Karnataka State Police officers — DySP C Balakrishna and Police Inspector A K Girish — has also been withdrawn. They were previously suspended under Rule 5 of the Karnataka State Police (Disciplinary Proceedings) Rules, 1965, and are now reinstated with immediate effect, pending the initiation of appropriate disciplinary procedures.
The stampede incident, which occurred outside Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4, 2025, prompted a judicial inquiry led by retired Justice Michael Cunha of the Karnataka High Court, alongside a magisterial probe led by Bengaluru Urban District Deputy Commissioner Jagadish G, IAS. Both reports were submitted to the state government on July 10 and 11, respectively.
The reinstatement comes after the accused officers submitted representations requesting reconsideration of their suspension, citing the completion of inquiry proceedings.
