Bengaluru: In a major move aimed at curbing exorbitant ticket pricing in cinema halls, the Karnataka government has issued an order capping movie ticket prices at a maximum of ₹200 across the state — including in multiplexes and single-screen theatres.
According to the official order, this ₹200 cap includes entertainment tax and is applicable not only to Kannada films but also to all movies released in other languages across Karnataka.
The decision comes amid rising concerns from cinema-goers over steep ticket prices, particularly in urban multiplexes. With the number of single-screen theatres dwindling and multiplexes expanding, movie tickets in cities like Bengaluru had become increasingly unaffordable for many.
The government’s new directive is seen as a pro-consumer move to make cinema more accessible to the general public, and is expected to bring much-needed relief to audiences.
