Bengaluru: Karnataka’s Food Safety and Drug Administration has inspected 286 sweet-manufacturing units and retail outlets across the State over three days, collected 383 food samples for laboratory analysis and seized 30 kg of misbranded khova as part of a special enforcement drive ahead of the festive period.
The special inspection drive is being conducted by the Food Safety Wing on the directions of Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration) Regulations, 2011.
On the third day of the drive, October 17, officials inspected 100 sweet-manufacturing units and retail outlets across Karnataka.
During the day, 113 food samples were collected from the inspected establishments and sent to respective Government Food Laboratories for analysis to determine their quality and compliance with food safety standards.

Officials found deficiencies including unhygienic conditions in food preparation and storage areas, non-availability of medical certificates for food-handling personnel and defects in product labelling. Notices were issued to 15 sweet-manufacturing units and food business operators over the deficiencies detected during the inspections.
Across the three-day period from October 15 to October 17, inspections covered 286 sweet-manufacturing units and retail outlets. A total of 383 samples were collected and forwarded to Government Food Laboratories for analysis.
The department said notices were issued to 40 sweet-manufacturing units or food business operators during the three-day drive.
Two food business operators were fined a total of ₹7,000, while 30 kg of khova identified as misbranded was seized.
The Food Safety and Drug Administration said inspections would continue against sweet-manufacturing units and retail outlets found violating food safety and quality standards.
It also warned that stringent legal action would be initiated in accordance with applicable rules and regulations against establishments found in violation.
