DIPR chief Dr PS Harsha says department will produce more films on Karnataka’s art, culture and tourism
Karnataka CM says award has raised stature of Kannada films at national level

Commissioner of Information and Public Relations Dr P S Harsha has expressed happiness over the Silver Lotus (Rajat Kamal) award going to ‘Naadada Navaneeta’, a documentary on Pandit Venkatesh Kumar produced by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).
Addressing a press conference at Vartha Soudha on Saturday, he said the film, directed by well-known film-maker Girish Kasaravalli, was adjudged the best entry in the art and culture film category among non-feature films, and the Rajat Kamal award was bestowed on it by President Droupadi Murmu.

Dr Harsha said this has inspired the DIPR to produce more films on art, culture and tourism. The department wants to promote Karnataka tourism by showcasing the state’s rich art and culture, he added.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai lauded the DIPR documentary on Pandit Venkatesh Kumar for winning the Silver Lotus award, the highest award in the film industry.

Maestro from Dharwad
The film on the noted Hindustani singer from Dharwad was produced in 2020 and directed by Girish Kasaravalli. It was nominated for the Silver Lotus award in the arts and culture category of the 68th National Film Awards. President Murmu presented the award to the DIPR at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on September 30.
Among the other awards, ‘Dollu’ won for the best Kannada film and ‘Taledanda’ won for the best Kannada film in the environmental protection category. The CM congratulated the production teams of these films and documentaries, saying the awards had raised the stature of Kannada cinema at the national level.
N Manjunatha Prasad, Principal Secretary, DIPR, described 2020 as a ‘landmark’ for the department.
This is the first time that a documentary produced by the DIPR has won the Silver Lotus award at the national level, and the achievement has enhanced the profile of the department, Dr Harsha said.
