Karnataka Congress Leadership Change Buzz Intensifies; Siddaramaiah Likely to Host Key Breakfast Meeting Amid Resignation Speculation
Bengaluru, May 27: Speculation over a possible leadership change in Karnataka Congress has intensified with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah scheduled to host a crucial breakfast meeting for ministers and party legislators on Thursday morning at his official residence ‘Kaveri’.
According to sources, invitations for the 9 AM breakfast meeting were sent late Tuesday night to ministers and senior leaders, further fuelling political discussions over a possible transition of power in the state.
The political developments come amid days of marathon meetings involving Congress high command leaders in Delhi and growing discussions around cabinet reshuffle and leadership change in Karnataka.
Siddaramaiah on Wednesday attended a programme at Vidhana Soudha and paid floral tribute to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. However, when questioned by the media about the ongoing political developments, the Chief Minister refrained from making any direct comments and said he would speak on the matter later.
Political circles in Bengaluru are now closely watching Thursday’s breakfast meeting, with discussions intensifying over whether the Congress high command is preparing for a smooth transition in leadership.
Sources indicate that the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting could play a crucial role in the coming days if any leadership-related decision is formally initiated.
There is growing speculation within political circles that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s name could emerge during discussions if the party proceeds with a transition formula.
According to insiders, the Congress high command is believed to be working on ensuring that any potential power-sharing arrangement or leadership transition takes place smoothly and without internal conflict.
Party leaders are also discussing possible cabinet restructuring, appointments to boards and corporations, and preparations for upcoming elections including Rajya Sabha and local body polls.
The Congress leadership has so far maintained official silence over the speculation, while ministers and MLAs continue to arrive in Bengaluru and Delhi for consultations.
With political suspense continuing, all eyes are now on Thursday’s meeting and the possible signals that may emerge from the Congress leadership regarding Karnataka’s political future.
