DK Shivakumar alleges that ruling BJP has mishandled Covid and flood situations in Karnataka

BENGALURU:

Finding fault with the ruling BJP in Karnataka on a range of issues, including Covid relief and flood relief measures, KPCC president DK Shivakumar has called for dissolution of the state assembly and challenged the BJP to get a fresh mandate from the people. He was speaking to the media at his Sadashivanagar residence in Bengaluru on Sunday after receiving a Congress party report on the Covid situation in the state.

The state Congress chief criticised the government’s handling of the flood situation, pointing out that Belagavi alone had more than ten MLAs from the BJP. He wanted to know why BJP MPs were not ‘putting pressure’ on the Centre for more flood relief for Karnataka.

Regarding Covid vaccines, Shivakumar said the government had failed miserably on this front.

Shivakumar said Congress party workers had come to the aid of migrants and farmers during the pandemic. “While BJP leaders put their photo on the food kits purchased through the government’s money, our party leaders distributed food kits, oxygen and sanitisers from their own money. We have provided 1,225 ambulances, 12,53,000 medical kits, 93,47,867 food kits and 24,654 oxygen cylinders,” he said.

Among the KPCC chief’s other claims, he said the Congress party provided free transport for stranded migrants, unearthed hospital bed and medicine scandals and distributed thousands of food kits across the state. “Our own leader, Shamanuru Shivashankarappa, distributed 3 lakh vaccines from his own money,” Shivakumar said.

On the Chamarajanagar hospital deaths incident, the state Congress chief alleged that the Chief Minister had informed the Centre that no deaths had occurred there due to oxygen shortage. He further alleged that families of Covid victims are not being given the ‘correct’ death certificates.
