Bengaluru, July 7: In a major digital governance initiative aimed at improving taxpayer services, the Karnataka Commercial Taxes Department has upgraded its Professional Tax portal, enabling the online issuance of statutory notices and allowing taxpayers to submit replies digitally without visiting departmental offices.

Commercial Taxes Commissioner Vipul Bansal said the upgraded Professional Tax portal became operational on July 1, 2026, providing a faster, more transparent and efficient communication system for registered Professional Tax payers across the state.

Under Rule 27 of the Karnataka Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Rules, 1976, all statutory communications issued by the department—including notices, assessment orders, summons, decisions and other official communications—will now be delivered exclusively through the official Professional Tax portal.

The department has also introduced a facility that enables registered taxpayers to submit explanations, objections, replies to notices and other representations online through the portal, eliminating the need for physical visits to tax offices.

Officials have advised all registered Professional Tax payers to regularly log in to the department’s portal and monitor any communications issued by the department. Taxpayers have also been urged to submit timely responses through the online system in accordance with the provisions of the Act and Rules.

The department stated that the new digital system is expected to reduce paperwork, improve transparency, speed up processing of cases and make compliance more convenient for businesses, employers and other registered Professional Tax payers.

For further information regarding the new online system or Professional Tax-related services, taxpayers may contact their jurisdictional Professional Tax office or the department’s toll-free helpline 1800-425-6300.
