BESCOM Crowned Overall Champions at Inter-ESCOM Sports Meet 2025–26 in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, July 8: Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) emerged as the Overall Champions at the Inter-ESCOM Sports Meet 2025–26, which concluded at the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru after two days of competitive sporting events held on July 7 and 8.

The annual sports meet witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees representing Karnataka’s major power utilities, including BESCOM, MESCOM, GESCOM, HESCOM, CESC and KPTCL. The event featured multiple sporting disciplines, encouraging teamwork, fitness and healthy competition among employees across the state’s power sector.

The tournament was inaugurated by BESCOM Managing Director Dr. N. Shivashankar, who highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance for employees engaged in essential public utility services.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Shivashankar said employees of electricity supply companies should give equal importance to their physical and mental well-being alongside their demanding professional responsibilities. He encouraged staff members to actively participate in at least one sporting activity during their leisure time to remain physically fit, mentally refreshed and better prepared to discharge their duties efficiently.

After two days of intense competition, host BESCOM secured the Overall Championship Trophy, while CESC finished as the Runners-Up.

Individual Championship Winners

In the individual category, G.K. Byresh Murthy of BESCOM and Mubarak of HESCOM were declared Joint Champions in the men’s category.

Mamata H.R. won the Women’s Individual Championship, emerging as the top performer among female participants.

Senior Officials Attend Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony was attended by several senior officials and representatives from Karnataka’s power sector, including: Shrikanth M. Sasalamatti, President of the Sports Meet and Chief Engineer (Electrical), Giridhar Kulkarni, Director (Planning), KPTCL, H.J. Ramesh, Technical Director, BESCOM, Balaram, President, KPTCL Engineers’ Association, C. Basavanna, President, Engineers’ Association, Girish, President, Accounts Officers’ Association, V.G. Sarvesh, Sports Secretary, BESCOM, Michael Washington, General Secretary, KPTCL Sports Council, D.H. Umesh, along with several senior officers, employees and sports enthusiasts.

The Inter-ESCOM Sports Meet is organised annually to promote fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork and camaraderie among employees of Karnataka’s electricity utilities while encouraging a healthy balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being.
