BENGALURU:

Karnataka Cabinet today deferred to discuss the issue of recommending to the Centre issue of according OBC (Other Backward Class) status to Veerashaiva-Lingayats, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs J C Madhuswamy said on Friday.

Briefing media about the Cabinet meeting held earlier in the day, he said that the issue was postponed to the next meeting since more details are needed to make a decision and recommend on the subject.

Earlier, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa told newsmen that he will be visiting Delhi before finalising the decision on including Veerashaiva-Lingayats in the OBC list.

“I will hold consultations with leaders in Delhi and then take a call on the issue. Even my Cabinet colleagues are of the same view,” Yediyurappa added.

Replying to a question, he said that the much-awaited Cabinet expansion will take place in 2 or 3 days time. “I have just spoken to (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah. They’ll clear the list,” he added. (Agency)
