Recent surge in Karnataka Covid cases linked to these states
BENGALURU:
Taking its own initiative in line with the Centre’s go-ahead to states to tighten, not dilute, existing rules, the Karnataka government has banned the entry of individuals from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. These states are currently witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Announcing this on Monday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said, “We have decided not to allow entry of people from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu till May 31.”
Karnataka has seen a surge in Covid-19 cases for the past several days, with most of the cases having a travel history of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Monday’s afternoon bulletin showed a spike of 84 positive cases, of which 62 had a travel history of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. This set off alarm bells among the Karnataka bureaucracy.
