BENGALURU:
Due to the planned Karnataka bandh on Friday, prohibitive measures under Section 144 of the IPC will be in effect in the city from midnight on September 29 to midnight on September 30. This was announced on Thursday by Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda.
Following a plea from pro-Kannada organizations to protest the supply of Cauvery River water to Tamil Nadu, the bandh is being organized. Gatherings with more than five individuals will not be allowed, according to the police commissioner, in order to preserve law and order.
No permission will be granted for any demonstrations, gathering, or protest. ‘Bandh’ invocation under duress will be considered a violation of Supreme Court orders. Any destruction of private or public property, as well as any fatalities, will be the responsibility of the organizers.
The police commissioner issued a warning that if shops are forcibly closed during the bandh and vehicles are destroyed or blocked, legal action will be taken.
