Wanted to apprise TN CM of the harsh ground realities in Karnataka and urge him to consider Cauvery as a humanitarian issue and not as regional conflict, says MP

DMK leaders appeared positive that discussions between Karnataka and TN government will provide a solution. CM Siddaramiah and Dy CM D.K. Shivakumar should reach out to TN CM M.K.Stalin to discuss the crisis, urges MP Lahar Singh

BENGALURU:

In an effort to reach out to Tamil Nadu Government, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Lahar Singh Siroya went to Chennai and waited for 48 hours trying to meet TN Chief Minister MK Stalin. MP Lahar Singh said he wanted to apprise CM MK Stalin about the looming drinking water crisis in Bengaluru, drought situations in Karnataka and urge the CM to consider the issue as humanitarian crisis and not a regional conflict.

Addressing a Press Conference in party office here today, Lahar Singh said, “I went to Chennai and stayed for 2 days trying to meet CM Stalin. My visit was a goodwill mission with no politics and to make a fervent plea to Tamil Nadu CM to see the Cauvery issue on humanitarian grounds and not as a regional conflict. Unfortunately, despite my wait for 48 hours, meeting with MK Stalin could not take place”, he said.

“However, my interactions with senior DMK MPs and Tamil Nadu leaders were extremely positive and they were receptive to the suggestions I made and appeared positive that discussions between Karnataka and TN government will provide a solution”,

MP Lahar Singh added that he was hopeful that an amicable solution to the crisis can be found if the Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu meet and hold discussions.

Appreciation for Deve Gowda

BJP MP Lahar Singh appreciated former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s suggestions in this matter who had said that out of court settlement is the best way forward. CMs of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu must meet and discuss the matter to find a solution, MP said.

MP Lahar Singh reiterated that in the interest of Karnataka’s farmers and Bengaluru, CM Siddaramiah and Dy CM D.K. Shivakumar should make efforts and reach out to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and hold discussions to find a solution.
