Karnataka Assembly Speaker Gurupadanagouda Patil Discusses 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference With Om Birla
New Delhi/Bengaluru, September 1: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Gurupadanagouda Sanganagouda Patil held discussions with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on preparations for the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), scheduled to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from September 13 to 19.
Patil will lead the Karnataka delegation to the conference. The discussions were held at the Main Committee Room of the Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi.
The meeting, convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, included an exchange of views on parliamentary affairs and traditions as well as preparations for the forthcoming conference.
Participants discussed arrangements for the conference, measures to be taken on various subjects and ways to ensure effective participation in the proceedings.
The meeting also discussed the significance of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in strengthening parliamentary systems, protecting democratic values and further enhancing parliamentary cooperation among Commonwealth countries.
Presiding officers from various States, Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Saleem Ahmed and officials concerned from the Central and State governments were present.
