Bengaluru: K-RIDE has installed two 61-metre open web girders at railway bridge No. 470 over NH-44 near Chandapura, completing a major structural step in the 48-km Baiyappanahalli–Hosur railway doubling project. Each girder weighs approximately 245 metric tonnes.
The first girder was installed on October 10 and the second on October 28. K-RIDE said these were its longest girders installed for a railway doubling project in Bengaluru.

The installation used a winch-pulling arrangement and temporary staging made of ISMB 600 steel sections. The operation required precise alignment and safety measures while minimising disruption to highway traffic.
The bridge is designed to carry the up and down railway lines on a common substructure. K-RIDE said the general arrangement drawing, structural design and temporary arrangement drawing had approval from HQ/UBL/SWR. The design has no intermediate pier within the highway.
After the associated railway works, demolition of the existing bridge and necessary highway improvements, the arrangement is intended to support the planned 12-lane highway configuration, subject to the approved design.
K-RIDE/Bi-RIDE Managing Director Lakshman Singh said the grade-separated crossing would allow road and rail traffic to move independently.
Singh said the associated railway and other works were targeted for completion by January 2027. The project is expected to ease congestion, improve safety and increase road and rail capacity.
