It’s official: Bengaluru has 81.31 lakh voters

Date:

BBMP publishes final electoral rolls; ward 77 (Sir M Vishweshwaraiah) has most voters at 57,684 while ward 42 (Aramane Nagar) has fewest at 29,197 voters

BENGALURU:

Even as the Karnataka High Court is yet to pass an order on the BBMP polls, the civic administration has gone ahead and published the final electoral rolls ward-wise as per the delimitation.

BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad, who is also the District Election Officer, announced on Tuesday that BBMP has published the final electoral rolls as of November 30.

Impossible target

Though BBMP wanted to keep the number of voters in each ward below 40,000, it has not been able to achieve that objective as many wards have voters in excess of 50,000. For example, Sir M Vishweshwaraiah ward (77) has 57,684 voters, Rajarajeshwari Nagar (149) has 57,070, Thanisandra (6) has 56,886, Uttarahalli (180) 56,881, Horamavu (31) 54,887, Gottigere (196) 53,685, Begur (192) 52,379, Herohalli (76) 52,345, Subramanyapura (181) 50,625, Bharathi Nagarv(88) 50,497, and KR Puram (57) 50,180.

As per the latest electoral rolls, BBMP’s 198 wards now have 81,31,723 voters, of whom 42,32,632 are male, 38,97,694 are female, and 1,397 are ‘third gender’.
