Karnataka CM’s ‘to do’ list for police includes vigil on drug-peddling and the ‘dark web’

BENGALURU:

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has issued a veritable checklist for the Karnataka police to adhere to, including strict Covid-related vigil at border checkposts, bringing old crimes like gambling and drug-peddling, and new-age crimes like the ‘dark web’, under control, and not least being people-friendly.

Speaking at a meeting with senior police officers on Tuesday, Bommai had a word of praise for the men in khaki, calling the Karnataka police ‘the best’ in the country. The CM said various initiatives have been rolled out to improve working conditions and facilities for the police department.

The CM exhorted the police to bring the crime rate under control and crack down on all kinds of illegal activities without making any compromises. Maintaining law and order, preventing crimes related to land disputes, and strengthening the internal security division were some of the points Bommai touched upon. Interestingly, he also spoke on the need for improving the lot of prisoners.

Home Minister wants better facilities

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra focused on the need for better facilities and functioning of the police department. He said delays in investigating crimes would not be tolerated.

P Ravikumar, Chief Secretary, Rajneesh Goel, ACS to the Home Department, N Manjunatha Prasad, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Praveen Sood, DG& IGP, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
