BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday claimed credit for the state’s contribution to the Namma Metro project in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is a joint initiative between the Centre and the state government.
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the Metro’s Orange Line at IIIT-B. The PM was reminded by CM Siddaramaiah that Metro is a project to be implemented in collaboration with the central and state governments. There is an agreement that the central government will spend 50 per cent and the state 50 cent for this project.
However, the state government is contributing more, and the central government is providing technical and financial assistance. Therefore, he said that this is not a joint program of the central and state governments while emphasizing that the state government has spent more on the project.

“So far, 96.10 km of metro rail work has been completed, with the state spending Rs 25,387 crore and the Centre spending Rs 7,468.86 crore. The Yellow Line project will cost Rs 7,160 crore”, CM Siddaramaiah said, taking credit for the project’s progress.
The CM also requested the Prime Minister to give equal importance to Karnataka as he does to Maharashtra and Gujarat. He urged the Centre to expedite the approval process for the Phase 3A project, for which the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared and sent to the Centre.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the third phase of the Bengaluru Metro project, which aims to increase the Metro’s length to 220 km by 2030, enabling 30 lakh passengers to travel daily.
