Gautam Adani's Meeting Was a Courtesy Call, First Since I Became CM: D K Shivakumar
Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said industrialist Gautam Adani’s meeting with him was a courtesy call and the first such meeting since he became Chief Minister.
Responding to questions about the meeting, Shivakumar said Adani had come to meet him as a matter of courtesy. He added that Adani’s businesses have operations in Karnataka, but did not provide details of any specific business or investment discussions during the meeting.
Shivakumar said this was the first time Adani had met him after he assumed office as Chief Minister.
Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka, meanwhile, criticised the meeting and accused the Congress of adopting contradictory positions on Adani. He questioned whether Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had approved the meeting and contrasted the Congress leadership’s criticism of Adani at the national level with the reception given to the industrialist in Karnataka.
Ashoka also referred to the proposed tunnel project and challenged Rahul Gandhi to state his position on Adani in the context of Karnataka. He said Shivakumar should tell Gandhi that Adani was a businessman engaged in business activities.
Ashoka further invoked environmental concerns in Bengaluru and called on Gandhi to raise such issues in the city, referring to Lalbagh and Sankey Tank while criticising what he described as the Congress’s double standards.
