Bengaluru: Union Minister and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday held a meeting with key leaders of the Hiriyur Assembly constituency on the upcoming by-election, and told them the NDA candidate of the JD(S)–BJP alliance will contest the seat.
The meeting was held at the party’s headquarters, JP Bhavan. Kumaraswamy asked workers and leaders to work with dedication, and said there should be no public discussion on the ticket. The candidate will be decided by leaders of both parties sitting together in the coordination committee, he said, and no one outside that forum should speak on the matter.
Alliance and the Council results
- He asked everyone to work together to strengthen the party’s organisation in the constituency.
- He said the alliance’s strength was already shown in the Legislative Council elections, where, he said, the JD(S) and the BJP together gave Congress a strong reply.
- He said the government was facing public anger over what he called misrule and that there was a strong anti-incumbency wave, adding that teachers and graduates had given a clear mandate in the Council polls.
Kumaraswamy asked leaders to tell people about what he described as the Congress’s anti-people policies over the past three and a half years, and about how, he alleged, the current Chief Minister’s government was looting the state and public tax money.
JD(S) youth wing president Nikhil Kumaraswamy addressed the leaders. Local leaders had earlier put forward their views.
JD(S) legislature party leader Suresh Babu, core committee president M Krishna Reddy, MP Mallesh Babu, former MLAs Manjunath, Annadani, Thimmarayappa and Nisarga Narayanaswamy, and Hiriyur leaders Jayanna, Ravindrappa and Yashodhara were among those present.
