Heavy Rain Hits Parts of Karnataka; Chikkaballapura Records 138.5 mm, Bengaluru South 112 mm
Bengaluru: Parts of Karnataka received heavy rainfall overnight, with Vatadahosahalli in Chikkaballapura district recording 138.5 mm and Herindyapanahalli in Bengaluru South district receiving 112 mm between Wednesday morning and early Thursday, according to rainfall data from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).
The KSNDMC rainfall information, covering the period from 8.30 am on September 16 to 6.15 am on September 17, showed several locations receiving substantial rainfall, particularly in Chikkaballapura, Chamarajanagar, Bengaluru South, Hassan and Tumakuru districts.
Vatadahosahalli in Chikkaballapura district recorded the highest rainfall in the data shared, at 138.5 mm.
Hanur_1 in Chamarajanagar district recorded 113.6 mm, while Herindyapanahalli in Bengaluru South district received 112 mm. Hanur in Chamarajanagar district recorded 104 mm.
Other significant rainfall totals in Chamarajanagar district included 81 mm at Shettalli, 68.5 mm at Maartalli and 42 mm at Ramapura.
Hassan district also recorded substantial rainfall, with Kondenalu receiving 54 mm, Kenkere 47 mm and Mududi 41 mm.
In Tumakuru district, Dandinasivara recorded 46.3 mm, Banasandra 39.5 mm and Aralaguppe 34 mm.
Lakya in Chikkamagaluru district recorded 37.5 mm, while Narachanahalli in Mysuru district received 31.5 mm and Sundarapalya in Kolar district recorded 31 mm.
In Uttara Kannada district, Ambikanagar received 30 mm and Bisalakoppa recorded 28.3 mm, according to the data.
Separately, rainfall observations for the period from 8.30 am on September 16 to 5.30 am on September 17 showed 6.2 mm of rain at Bengaluru HAL Airport.
Mangaluru Airport recorded 3.3 mm during the same period, while no rainfall was reported in the North Interior Karnataka observation cited in the data.
Automatic Weather Station and Automatic Rain Gauge observations showed Chikkaballapura district headquarters receiving 29.5 mm between 8.30 am on September 16 and 5.30 am on September 17.
ZA-HRS Brahmavara recorded 2.5 mm, while Doddaballapura in Bengaluru Rural district and KVK Chintamani in Chikkaballapura district each recorded 0.5 mm.
The rainfall figures indicate sharply varying rainfall across Karnataka during the overnight period, with some locations in southern parts of the state receiving more than 100 mm while several other stations recorded relatively limited rainfall.
