Bengaluru: Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh has directed officials to conduct a detailed survey of properties that could be affected by the proposed widening of Haralur Main Road, while ordering action against footpath encroachments, basement parking violations, unauthorised buildings and discharge of untreated wastewater into stormwater drains in the Kasavanahalli-Haralur area.

Ramesh inspected Kasavanahalli and Haralur Main Road to review pedestrian movement, road conditions and infrastructure and issued directions to the officials concerned.

Along Kasavanahalli Main Road, he instructed officials to immediately cover open slabs on the footpath and create an even pedestrian pathway. Garbage dumped near Someshwaraswamy Temple and along the roadside should be removed immediately and the area kept clean, he said.

The Commissioner also ordered the removal of advertisement boards placed by shops on footpaths and obstructing pedestrian movement. He directed a marshal to issue a notice and impose a penalty on Drip Food Court for placing a board on the footpath.

Sri Vishnu Brindavan Veg Hotel was directed to immediately remove benches placed on the footpath, with a penalty to be imposed if they are put back. Officials were also told to remove a slab placed on the footpath in front of Arogya Hastha Hospital.

Ramesh directed officials to coordinate with traffic police to remove vehicles being illegally parked on the footpath in front of Vishal Mega Mart.

He also ordered notices to the owners of the commercial establishments ‘Glonail Ash’ and ‘MBR’ for allegedly violating rules by not using their building basements for parking.

At Kaikondanahalli Junction, the Commissioner directed officials to issue a notice to the owner of a building where a compound wall had been constructed across a public road and to remove the encroachment. Engineers were also instructed to issue notices and initiate action against all unauthorised buildings being constructed illegally in the area.

During an inspection of the stormwater drain near Mahalingeshwara Temple, Ramesh ordered officials to remove encroachments on the drain without exception.

He further directed officials to immediately stop apartments and residential properties from directly discharging untreated wastewater and STP water into the stormwater drain and to issue notices to buildings involved in such discharge.

The Commissioner also carried out a detailed inspection of Haralur Main Road. He said a public request seeking widening of the approximately three-kilometre stretch from Sarjapur Road to Silver County Main Road would be examined and necessary action considered in view of heavy traffic congestion on the road.

As part of the exercise, officials were directed to conduct a comprehensive survey and provide details of properties that would fall within the proposed widening of Haralur Main Road for a total stretch of 400 metres — 200 metres on either side from the Dinne Anjaneyaswamy Temple road junction.

Bommanahalli Zone Chief Engineer Malathi and Assistant Executive Engineers were present during the inspection.
