Bengaluru/Vijayawada: A major theft incident has been reported on the Bengaluru–Narasapur Special Express, where a group of thieves targeted passengers and stole gold valuables from multiple coaches.

The incident occurred between Bapatla and Appikatla railway stations, where thieves allegedly looted around 12 tolas of gold from passengers travelling in four coaches—S7, S1, S12, and S13.

According to preliminary information, the accused boarded the train earlier and carried out the theft while the train was in motion. After committing the crime, they reportedly stopped the train near Appikatla and fled the scene.

Railway officials stated that valuables including gold chains were snatched from passengers within a short span of time. It is suspected that around 8 to 10 individuals were involved in the operation.

Following complaints from passengers, the Vijayawada Railway Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Railway DSP Akkeswara Rao confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused.

The incident has raised concerns over passenger safety on long-distance trains, with authorities now examining security measures and surveillance gaps.
